What information do I need to provide to register for an account?
To register for an account, you will need to provide an email address that can be verified, and you will need to pass identity checks.
What you need to know
When registering for an account, you’ll be asked for:
- an email address that can be verified
- details of 2-4 standard Australian identification documents to verify your identity
Legal professionals will need to provide their Practicing Certificate or I.D. Number
Identity verification
An identity verification system has been incorporated into the registration process that securely verifies a user’s identity online. Information entered during the verification process does not get stored or recorded. It is only used to verify the identity at the time of registration.
Important to note: To verify your identity, you must enter your first name and surname on the registration form exactly as it is shown on your Australian identification documents.
Depending on your user type you will need to match your details against 2-4 of the following ID sources;
- Australian Citizenship Certificate
- Australian Driver's licence
- Australian electoral roll
- Australian passport
- Australian visa
- Birth certificate
- Change of Name Certificate
- Marriage certificate
- Medicare card
A PDF copy of a utility bill (e.g. telephone, water, electricity, gas) or a certified copy of an international passport are also accepted; however, it may cause delays with the account registration. The Online Registry support team will verify the documents and contact you via email.

If your identity cannot be verified, you will not be able to use secure services. Your identity must be verified online, this information cannot be provided in person or over the phone.
If you require assistance you can contact us or use court services by visiting a court registry or you can file forms by post.
If you are a solicitor or barrister from a state other than NSW, you will need to email a copy of your Practising Certificate to us. We will contact you when we have completed our checks and activated your account. Please note, you must pass the online identity checks prior to your account being activated.
