What do I do if my Practising Certificate Number (PCN) is not recognised when registering?
When registering for an Online Registry account, if you receive an error message, ‘the practising certificate details cannot be found’ there has been an issue verifying your practising certificate online. You should;
- check you have entered the correct details and try again
- contact the Law Society or NSW Bar Association to check your details are correct.
If your practising certificate number is correct, contact us and we will manually verify your account.
Additional information
For NSW legal practitioners, the validity of your practising certificate will be confirmed by the Law Society or Bar Association as appropriate as part of the registration process.
For interstate legal practitioners, a copy of your practising certificate must be provided to Online Registry Support. Register online and follow the prompts to email us a copy of your practising certificate. You will be contacted when we have completed our checks and activated your account. Please note, you must pass the online identity checks prior to your account being activated.
For international legal practitioners, you must have a PCN issued from the NSW Law / Bar Association to practice in New South Wales. You will be required to submit a copy of the PCN and a certified copy (scanned as a PDF document) of your driver’s licence or passport (the driver’s licence or passport can be from any country). Please note, you must have an Australian address to complete the registration process.
